KHOI Community Radio To Celebrate 5th Birthday

August 12, 2017 - 6:00pm -- ron

On August 12, KHOI Community Radio will celebrate its fifth year on the air with live music outdoors on the street in front of its 410 Douglas Avenue studios in Ames. The headline act is Sam Salomone, a veteran of the Des Moines music scene whose signature instrument is the Hammond B3 organ. Sam Salomone is an inductee of both the Iowa Jazz Hall of Fame and the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame. Sam is a musical treasure, a living legend. We’re delighted to bring him to people who may not have heard his music yet.

The birthday celebration begins at 4:00 with a live broadcast hosted by Allen “Gildy” Gildehaus (Rock of the Ages) and Carole Horowitz (Previews the Arts). At 5:30, we will have an indoor performance by Chai Tunes, a “Bollywood”-style band made up of ISU professors. The outdoor performance starts around 6:00 pm. Birthday cake and lemonade will be served at the 7:15 intermission.
