KHOI’s Spring fundraiser gets underway at CY Stephen’s this Thursday Evening with the Avey Grouws Band and Matt Woods.  Tickets can be purchased on KHOI.org website.  KHOI’s Pat Schlarbaum had an opportunity to visit with a couple of the mucisians and find out more about them and their music; so, we listen in.

Incumbent candidate, Iowa, State Representative Beth Wessle-Kroeschell shares her insights, concerns, priorities, and goals with listeners.

KHOI’s Dennis Hart provides us with his news summary of the week from the pages of our local papers. KHOI’s Pat Schlarbaum had an opportunity to visit with Larry Stone about the upcoming Loess Hill Seminar. They recount the history as well as the people involved who helped to create one of the premier outdoor gathering in Iowa. As part of our series visiting with the candidates of the primary elections,Incumbent candidate Story County Supervisor, Lisa Heddens joins us to share her insights, concerns, and goals with listeners.We welcome candidate, Jim Carlen who is seeking to defeat Senator Grassley and represent Iowans in the US Senate.  Mr. Carlen share his views, concerns and goals with our listeners.

Local Talk for Friday, May 20, 2022 featured Dennis Hart's summary of the news for this week from the Ames Tribune.  Board of Supervisors candidate Linda Murken emphasized her mission with the citizens of Story County.  And how she proposes to continue her incumbency and strive to improve the lives and natural resources of the county.  Susan Gwiasda, Public Information Officer for the City of Ames, reminded listeners of Mayor's Bike Ride Saturday, May 21 and the route the ride will include. We visit with Ames Area Arts Council, Director, Jennifer Brockpahler as she reviews the awards presented to this year’s volunteers, arts advocates and entrepreneurs, board members, art educators, and highlights their accomplishments.

Story County Conservation Naturalist and Environmental EducatorBeth Waage reviews the May and early June events calendar, summer camps camping season (Hickory must be near full)  as well as how interested folks can volunteer their time or become a member of Partners, the Friends Group of the Conservation Board.

Susan Gwiasda Public Information Officer for the City of Ames reviews the city council meeting and the bike to work week which will be highlighted by the Mayor’s Bike Ride to the Tedesco Learning Corridor along with 

Recreation Superintendent Kourtney Cort shares spring and summer programming opportunities including classes for kids and adults, Yoga in the Park, and more. Also, she shares how the department continues to recruit for needed summer help.

Ames Reunion June 10, 11, and 12 was featured including Cynthia Oberlin Page, Rob Louden and Larry Stoltenberg.  Early plans are to gather at Mother’s Pub 7PM Friday Night, Great Hall of Memorial Union 3 – 10PM Saturday, and Brookside Park 11AM Sunday picnic.  Check website for further developments:  amesreunion.com.  It’s a digital home for you counterculture types who wandered through Ames Iowa/ISU during the sixties and seventies. Susan Gwiasda, Public Relations Officer with the City of Ames included Ron Edwards Ames, Animal Shelter and Animal Control Supervisor.  Ron Edwards talked about spring outdoor wildlife, what is normal, and when an animal may need human intervention (not often!).

ISU Extension Mary Wilkins discussed:  May 24 Beekeeping 101 6-7 pm attend a live stream.  May 26, 10:30AM:  Gardening programs for youth – with Roland Library and with Reiman Gardens.  Tuesday June 7 1PM: Growing Up Wild is a program for preschool aged children with an adult.  And there’s:  Day long program offerings are available for youth in kindergarten through 3rd grade and 4th grade and up.
