The ISU Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Thomas Hill, was appointed by ISU President Leath's office to lead a 20-person VEISHEA Task Force to make recommendations for the future of the event. VEIESHA, Iowa State University's long-standing Spring festival highlighting the university, its students, and faculty, was cancelled this past Spring after public vandalism and a critical injury occurred a few days prior to the festival.

Local Talk ends National Poetry Month with a bit of a "slam" featuring 4 local poets: Jim Coppoc, Xavier Cavazos, Jennifer L. Knox and Claire Kruesel. In between poems, Jim Coppoc shares the history of poetry slams nationwide and in the town of Ames, and describes the scene at Ames Poetry Revival, the poetry slam / music jam that happens the first Tuesday of each month at DG's Taphouse. Host Greta Anderson also checks in with the poets on what drives them to keep pulsing out poems.

Beltane

Beltane is the first Fire festival of the year and is held either on April 30 or May 1, which is halfway between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. The rituals conducted were intended to purify crops, animals, and people which would help to bring fertility in all three ​in the coming year.
