Ames HS History, Anti-racism Collaborative, and Immigrant Rights

 

Alex Fejfar from the Ames Historical Society came in for his monthly visit and told us about their new exhibit about Ames High School through the years.

Riley Drake, from the Anti-Racism Collaborative (ARC of Ames) and a counselor at Sawyer Elementary, spoke about a series of free workshops on combatting racism.

Immigration issues, particularly DACA and sanctuary, were discussed with Cornelia Flora, Professor Emeritus of ISU, and Gabriela Flora, Program Director for the American Friends Service Committee in Denver. They told about the dire situations immigrants are facing today.

In addition, we talked with Jeanette Vizguerra, who was named as one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential People of 2017. She told about her own experiences as a sanctuary seeker and starting a sanctuary organization in Denver.
