In the wake of a gunman's killing 11 people and injuring more, at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa issued a statement condemning the anti-Semitic violence, read here by Connie Ryan, Executive Director. Ryan also described an interfaith vigil and memorial service to be held in Des Moines for the Tree of Life Synagogue, the Des Moines Jewish community, and for all others who experience hate.
Ames native, Lucia Ruedenberg - Wright, was a member of a Jewish congregation that worshiped at the Pittsburgh Tree of Life Synagogue, until recently. She and her 13-year-old daughters Tsameret and Moraih described life at that synagogue, the community of Squirrel Hill, and good times ice skating with immigrant families, through the Synagogue's social service programs.
