On Tuesday December 6th, around 100 residents of Ames, Nevada, and surrounding rural areas met to discuss the pending applications for three separate hog confinements in Story County, just north of Nevada. Applications were made by Scott, Kyle, and Eric Henry, owners of LongView Pork, LLC. Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (ICCI) scheduled a community planning meeting in Nevada Tuesday evening to organize an effort to stop these permits from issuance.
The Story County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the permits on Tuesday, December 13th at 10am (residents are advised to arrive by 9:30am to get in). The County Supervisors make a recommendation to refuse or accept the permits, but the final decision remains with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
