Alex Fejfar, from the Ames History Center, introduces their upcoming "history talk" lecture about "Working with the Enemy; Four Prisoners of War in Iowa During World War II" about internment camps during that war.
 
Laura Doering, ISU Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success gives statistics on enrollment at ISU this fall and a profile of the student body, including a record level of diversity, as part of ISU's mission. She describes from which countries most international students come from  Laura also describes how she is introducing new enrollment and student support management for helping students succeed..
 

Eric Smidt, new Director of School, Community & Media Relations, introduced himself and Ella Glen and Kelly Fredrick, the two Ames High School Seniors who are spearheading Homecoming Festivities at Ames High School and the downtown homecoming parade.

Leanne Harter, Outreach and Special Projects Coordinator for Story County, was on hand for her monthly report (see events at McFarland Park for September by clicking the links on our website). Renee McLaughlin then told us about A Tiny House and Simple Living Festival taking place in Colfax on September 22-24. And finally we heard from Darrin Crow, featured storyteller from Story City's annual Story Festival, who will entertain at venues throughout the three-day festival September 14-16. Other events include "Putnam County Spelling Bee" put on by Judge Story Theatrical Troupe and Tom Milligan's impersonation of Ding Darling, Pulitzer Prize winning Tribute Cartoonist, noted for his environmental themes.

Cody West, Iowa State Student Body President reads the DACA Statement that he and other Student Body officials posted on their web site, stating “unwavering empathy and resolute support” of undocumented students at ISU who are affected by our federal government’s plan to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. He also described a statement made by ISU Interim President Allen their supportElizabeth MartinezMulticultural Liaison Officer at ISU and Student Services Specialist in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences explains how the recent developments are affecting students and how support is and can be given to the “Dreamers.” 

The 6th Annual Main Street Oktoberfest celebration is coming to downtown Ames next Saturday the 16th, once again bringing  live polka music, dancing, games, and German Food. Ames resident of German origins Renate Delmon describes Octoberfest in Munich. Second generation German resident of Iowa Herb Bode describes how his parents came to Iowa from Germany after World War 1.

Dennis Hart provided a weekly news roundup of top stories gleaned from newspapers around the area.

Host, Gale Seiler, interviewed Emmanuel Agba, advisor to ISU’s Team PrISUm, along with students Matt Goode, Dylan Neal and Mackenzie Klima. They are part of the group that designed and built a solar car called Penumbra, which is on its way to Australia for the 2017 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge.

Merry Rankin was up next, talking about Harvest Fest on Friday evening, Sept 8.  She brought along the two Sustainable Ag grad students who organized this new event.

Nature Reporter Pat Schlarbaum brought us Chris Atkins, Environmental Education Naturalist, talking about the Prairie Awakening Celebration, at Kuehn Conservation Area, Sunday, September 10, 2017, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m .

Our next guest was Maureen Seamonds, the organizer and visionary of the workshop "Legacy Artists and Writers Collaboration Quilting Workshop," that will happen on September 18 and 19, 2017, at Briggs Woods, near Webster City. The event combines the talents of Jen Berte, writer, and Carmon Slater, quilter.

The Chefs and Food at First, Ames Tribune News Roundup, Ames Civic Report

Three chefs from Food at First in Ames,  a free food service known for exceptional cooking and community spirit. Three of the star chefs, Dale Vanderschcaff, Kritine Lang, and Patty Yoder describe their own signature dishes when cooking for free meal program and try to explain the "Food At First Magic." Yoder is also Executive Director of the program, which also includes an open pantry. Food at First is located at 611 Clark Ave in the First Christian Church. They serve free dinners to anyone who comes, 364 days a year.
