We are Starting to Build!

KHOI transmitter shed

Our deadline for getting KHOI on the air is August 18 2012. That means that within exactly one half year, we must literally be on the air - you will be hearing the sound of community radio when you turn on the radio and go to 89.1FM!

First, we are addressing the most fundamental equipment for getting on the air: our Radio Transmitter at the base of our transmitting tower (just east of I-35 near Story City).

My People

You are invited to jazz musician, archivist and KHOI family member Anthony Garrett's award-winning exhibition MY PEOPLE, a visualization of his own poem by the same name. This exhibition, at KHOI in the Ames Pantorium Building, honors Black History Month with a personal remembrance in photos, memorabilia reflecting family and jazz history and revealing primary source data.

Pandemonium at the Pantorium

Utopia Park - An incredible electro-punk dance band fronted by two unstoppable brothers from Fairfield, IA. One of the most renowned and outrageous live shows in this state, they combine a positive message with a hilarious wildness.

Mumford's - Ames' over-the-top, storytelling, dance-rock horn band comes to party.

Doctor Murdock - Local indie rock with a load of beautiful melodies and irresistable grooves.
