Sergeant Derrick Grooters of the Ames Safe Neighborhoods Team describes how this designated police team was created to build positive relationships and neighborhood safety.
 
Jazzmine Brooks, ISU Sexual Misconduct Prevention Coordinator, and Mark Rowe Barth, ISU Director of Student Wellness, explain the Green Dot Program that ISU will roll out on September 27, an innovative, culture-changing new program to reduce sexual assault by educating bystanders on how to respond with help.
 
Brenda Dryer from Ames Chamber of Commerce introduces Vicki Hales, business teacher and supervisor of the Business Engagement Collaborative at Ames High School, part of the Chamber's k-12 engagement in Story County. With them, were Kevin Maxwell and Tyler Postma, two high school students who are participating in the business training program.

In their monthly segment, Ames Progressive Alliance members Anne Kinzel, Carolyn Myers and Betty Baird brought us a discussion of walkability and bikeability in Ames. Joining in that conversation were Elizabeth Wentzel, Steve Libbey, and Bronwyn Beatty-Hansen.

Pat Schlarbaum discussed Iowa's disaster preparedness with Mark Schouten, Director of Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness before Susan Franzen and Paul Wierson set out on a Road Trip to the Mehlisch Barn, one of the barns featured in this weekend's Iowa Barn Foudation's statewide barn tour.  Inspired by the book Prohibition in Eastern Iowa, whose author Linda Betsinger McCann, spoke with us as we drove along, we asked Roxanne Mehlisch to tell us Prohibition related stories as we visited  her 1904 barn.  We closed out the show with Evan Taylor's interview with Marty, who will be playing with Ebony Tusks during Maximum Ames Music Festival, also this weekend.

Laura Doering, ISU Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success gives statistics on enrollment at ISU this fall and a profile of the student body, including a record level of diversity, as part of ISU's mission. She describes from which countries most international students come from  Laura also describes how she is introducing new enrollment and student support management for helping students succeed..

Leanne Harter, Outreach and Special Projects Coordinator for Story County, was on hand for her monthly report (see events at McFarland Park for September by clicking the links on our website). Renee McLaughlin then told us about A Tiny House and Simple Living Festival taking place in Colfax on September 22-24. And finally we heard from Darrin Crow, featured storyteller from Story City's annual Story Festival, who will entertain at venues throughout the three-day festival September 14-16. Other events include "Putnam County Spelling Bee" put on by Judge Story Theatrical Troupe and Tom Milligan's impersonation of Ding Darling, Pulitzer Prize winning Tribute Cartoonist, noted for his environmental themes.

Cody West, Iowa State Student Body President reads the DACA Statement that he and other Student Body officials posted on their web site, stating “unwavering empathy and resolute support” of undocumented students at ISU who are affected by our federal government’s plan to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. He also described a statement made by ISU Interim President Allen their support. Elizabeth Martinez, Multicultural Liaison Officer at ISU and Student Services Specialist in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences explains how the recent developments are affecting students and how support is and can be given to the “Dreamers.” 

The 6th Annual Main Street Oktoberfest celebration is coming to downtown Ames next Saturday the 16th, once again bringing  live polka music, dancing, games, and German Food. Ames resident of German origins Renate Delmon describes Octoberfest in Munich. Second generation German resident of Iowa Herb Bode describes how his parents came to Iowa from Germany after World War 1.
