'Walking the Talk' to Premiere Friday

Linda Manatt and Roxanne Thompson wish to share the following message about their new show, "Walking the Talk":

On Friday, February 22, 2013, KHOI is airing a new show called “Walking the Talk” which shares stories of people who are taking steps to address social issues in our community and doing the work of making a better world for us all.

The topic of our first “Walking the Talk” edition is Eating Disorders. How thin is too thin? What are the signs that your child might have an eating disorder? How can we reach out to a community member who is struggling with an eating disorder?

KHOI sat down with Michelle Roling and Isabella Blaine, two members of the Eating Disorder Coalition of Iowa, a new statewide effort to raise awareness about eating disorders, to get answers to these questions and more. Michelle specializes in eating disorders in her work as a student counselor at Iowa State University Student Counseling Services, and Isabella’s own recovery from this devastating disease has inspired her to reach out to fellow sufferers through her website, “Indulging in Hope.”

Finally, we speak with a woman whose 20-year-old daughter is still in the throes of an eating disorder that almost claimed her life.

Social issues can threaten the entire community’s quality of life, health and well-being, often marginalizing members of our community. We hope that “Walking the Talk” will increase our awareness of the issues faced by our neighbors who are struggling with a social issue and encourage us to offer them hope and support.
