CAFO Hearing Tuesday, Rocky Raccoon, Public Art for Ames Neighborhoods, Hazard Mitigation Plan

Kerry Dixon City of Ames Public Art Commission explains how the commission will buy some of the statues we see in downtown Ames at this time of year for permanent installation in Ames neighborhoods. The statues can be seen online and applications can be made on behalf of neighborhoods . The deadline 
for applications is December 14th.

Shortly after the November elections, applications for three separate hog confinements were made to be built in Story County, just north of Nevada. Applications were made by Scott, Kyle, and Eric Henry, owners of Longview Pork, LLC.

David Osterberg, founder, researcher, and former director of the Iowa Policy Project, discussed the hog confinement industry’s impact on Water Quality and Public Health in Iowa, as well as current political and legal support for the hog confinement industry. This was in anticipation of a public hearing about three permitapplications for Story County, to be held by the The Story County Board of Supervisors tomorrow, Tuesday, December 13th at 10am (residents are advised to arrive by 9:30am to get in).

Adam Mason, organizer for ICCI, Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, described attempts by other Iowa counties to deny the building of hog confinement operations.

Keith Morgan,Story County Emergency Management Coordinator, explained the Hazard MitigationPlan being developed and invites you, as a public member, to read the plan and provide comment and public input.
