Women's EqualityDay, Restoring Voting Rights to Felons

Story County Auditor Lucy Martin told us how her office keeps track of voter registrations and organizes both mail-in and in person elections.  Carolyn Klaus of the League of Women Voters described the locations and process for registering and updating your voting registration. Karen Kedrowski, director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics, gave us a brief history of the century of struggle for suffrage that culminated just 100 years ago today in the ratification of the 19th amendment granting all women the right to vote.  Speaking about the recent Executive Order 7 by Gov. Kim Reynolds restoring voting rights to felons, Al Womble chair of the Democratic Black Caucus described the hurdles in educating felons and parolees (who did not have their voting rights restored) how to register, vote, and which rights they now have.
