We focused on two outstanding Native American Women -- Mary YoungBear, Meskwaki, who was inducted into the Iowa Women's Hall of Fame in 2020. Maria Pearson, Yankton Sioux, who is known as "The Founding Mother of the modern Indian repatriation movement," and NAGPRA. Both spent their childhood outside Iowa, but were strongly influenced by their Native grandmothers.
We have an interview with Mary Young Bear about the remarkable history of the Meskwaki Settlement in Tama County, where she is Art Conservator and Curator at the MeskwakiCultural Center and Museum. Students from Wartburg College (Silvia Oakland, Dominic Hanson, Courney Stucker, Nathan Stephany, Lauren Wisdom, Anshika Singh ) are preparing a video documentary about Maria Pearson and had a lot to tell us about their research and how they are adapting journalism to video production.
