Library for the Blind and Small Town Resilience - Jewell and Jefferson

Brian Lammers, executive director of Hamilton County Conservation, and Duane Hendrickson, Jewell Fire Chief, told us about their collaboration in raising money to purchase rescue craft for Little Wall Lake.  This led to a lengthy discussion of the development of Little Wall Lake as a source of recreation for this area and the role that Jewell plays in providing essential services for towns in the surrounding counties.  Going to the western edge of our listening area, Regan Hannigan of Jefferson Matters told us about Arts in Jefferson including rooftop art, Belltower Festival, RVP 1875, and History Boy Theatre.

Susan Gwiazda,  Ames Public Relations Officer, reported that there will be a vote at the (May 25) Ames City Council Meeting on repealing the Mask Ordinance.    Sarah Willeford, executive director of Iowa Library for the Blind, described the work of that organization, which was just awarded the outstanding 2020-21 award for the Library for the Blind and Print Disabled.
