Recently Larry Gullett with the Johnson County Conservation Board facilitated a land transfer to the Ioway Nation. Erin and Brian Melloy gave a total of 90 acres to the Johnson County Conservation Board that included seven acres to the Ioway Nation of Kansas and Nebraska. According to Ioway tribal vice-chair, Lance Foster, this is the first land back in Iowa for the Ioway Nation since they were forced to leave in 1838.
