Born and brought up in Assam, India, Juri came to the west in 1983. She did graduate studies in Canada and England then came to the United States in 1993. She has been married to Madan for 28 years and has two children. She taught mathematics in Open University, England and at Murray State College, Oklahoma. She taught statistics at Iowa State University from the year 2000 to 2010.
