We start off the hour with some wisdom from Irving Berlin and the Blue-Collar Philosopher. Ames High girls have been collecting state trophies left and right: The cheer squad won states for the second time two weeks ago, while swimmers came in 2nd place after a four-year (2010-2013) championship run.
We air audio from a nonagenarian aquatics competitor who learned how to swim at Lake Comar in Story City, and then speak with State Coach of the Year, Dan Flannery, about his coaching style and the lessons learned from 2nd place. With a musical tribute to Big Bank Hank (d. 11/11/2014) of the Sugarhill Gang.
