Leanne Harter, Story County Outreach and Special Projects Manager announced spring events from Story County before we launched into a preview of the 14th Midwest Children's Choir Festival to be held at CY Stephens Auditorium April 21, 2017. Shon Stephenson, Executive Director of Ames Children's Choirs, and Dr. Christina Svec, Director and Conductor of Concert Choir of Ames Children's Choirs, discussed the special qualities of children's voices, as well as the Midwestern Regional Culture of choral singing.
Shifting from singing to poetry, KHOI showcased some of its many programs featuring poetry including a recording of Sawyer Speaks Spoken Word Poetry Program coordinated by Sawyer Staff members Riley Drake, Nicole Coronado, and Natalie Stowe whose mission is "to support and empower students on their journey to finding their voice as community based activists and accomplices in active solidarity with one another."

This show, the first Local Talk program of KHOI's historic 2017 Spring Fund Drive, features segments of a long interview with station manager Ursula Ruedenberg on the history, purpose, and philosophy of community radio in this country and nationwide.
Also featured: an interview with two members of ISU's Flying Cyclones about the Fly-in Breakfast held last Saturday at the Ames Municipal Airport. Small aircraft from around the state and the country flew in to celebrate the opening of a new airport hangar and new terminal.
Steve Kohtz, a graduate student in ISU's College of Design, talks about the project of a new graduate class called Design for Social Change. Log on to the project's special website to learn how you too can help build community by focusing on nicknames--your own and other people's.
