Organizers representing the Main Street Cultural District hold their first Octoberfest on the 300 block of downtown Ames. The event will feature barbeque, live music and copious drink. Only those aged 21 or older may attend.
Proceeds from the event go toward revitalizing the downtown area in Ames.

The Ames Community Theater presents "Tomfoolery," a musical revue that satirizes many of the political and social anxieties of the Cold War era. Topics subject to satire include the threat of atomic warfare, environmental pollution, the scourge of recreational drug use and the foibles of U.S. millitary policy.

Rather than sharing food, writers Joe Geha (a man of Lebanese descent) and Fern Kupfer (a Jewish woman) appear in the Memorial Union's Sun Room to share details about their recently published books. Ms. Kupfer discusses her recently published memoir Leaving Long Island. Mr. Geha discusses his recently published novel Lebanese Blonde. A brief reception follows the event.
