We held a discussion with the organizers of “Homeless Stand Down,” an event for all military veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to be held at Brookside Park on July 29. This is a coordinated effort of Story County and ISU veterans associations. Following was an interview with woodworker Clay Gurganus and a musical introduction to the Bluegrass group Monroe Crossing, that will perform at the Story City Theater on Thursday, July 31.

Jackie co-manages Iowa Learning Farms, an ISU Extension program which conducts farm days for farmers and on-farm research, and she directs Water Rocks!--an education program that brings music and children into the mix. We talk to Tim Smith, a farmer who discovered that the runoff from his farm was not as nutrient-free as he would like, and Roger Wolf of the Iowa Soybean Association, who describes the organization's water monitoring program and expresses its evidence-based philosophy for Iowa's Nutrient Reduction System.

Country musician Leah Turner visits Ames. Probation officer Christy Boyer, of the Center for Creative Justice talks about her work with domestic batterers. Iowa State University's Team PrISUm talk about the solar car they've built, the race (American Solar Challenge) that the car is competing in, and the all-family festival organized around the official race pit stop, here in Ames. The Pit Stop event will be at the D2 Parking Lot, north of the Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday, July 26, 1:00 - 4:00 PM.
