Dick Brooks has over 35 years of experience in public and commercial radio. He has worked asa reporter, producer and manager for print media and public radio. Brooks has numerous national and international broadcast awards and fellowships and served as a consultant to the Corporationfor Public Broadcasting. He is very active in providing station-based training for community radio broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada.

His most recent work with ActionMedia, the company he founded in 1994, has involved hundredsof interviews and focus group projects that have led to new understandings of how people hearideas in relation to their own ideas rather than as an analysis of facts. These ideas are vital to betterinterviewing and better writing for successful communication.

KHOI Pledge Drive a Success

KHOI Community Radio thanks all of the individuals and local businesses that helped make the station’s first-ever on-air pledge drive a success. 

Nearing the Goal

The inaugural pledge drive took place on Friday, February 15.  Spurred on by an anonymous $25,000 donation received earlier in the week, volunteers took to the airwaves and raised an additional $3,000 during the daylong pledge drive.

Mary Richards to Launch 'The Book Shelf' on KHOI

Lovers of the written and spoken word will be able to enjoy both this Monday, when KHOI airs the first episode of “The Book Shelf.” Scheduled to air at 9 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the show will enlist central Iowans to read books by central Iowans. The first book it will feature is “Discovering the Body,” a mystery novel by the Ames native Mary Howard.

KHOI to Host 'Wall-Signing' Events for Founding Donors

As KHOI nears its goal of raising $40,000, the KHOI team will celebrate its progress during two parties in the coming weeks. Both will take place in the former Ames Pantorium building on 410 Douglas from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The first will fall on Friday, Nov. 9. The second will fall on the following Friday, Nov. 16.
