Native American Heritage Month was featured with Dallas Chief Eagle presenting to a crowd at Prairie Awakening in Dallas County. He used a meditation technique of honoring and focusing on a Grandmother and Grandfather rock. The hour concluded with a phenology concerning Bobcats. Joni Mitchell's music and 78th birthday this week was featured with a live version of Both Sides Now.

Today's show started with a road trip to the Iowa Arboretum where Mark Schneider director of the Arboretum described the work of cleaning up after the Derecheo and how the downed trees had been creatively used . Then we visited the newly opened Jewell Market and spoke with Garren Zanker. We drove down to Town and Country Market in Slater, where we talked with Larry Larson owner of the grocery store for thirty-six years. [the link is attached to a YouTube video on this issue]. Paul Wierson ended the show by telling what it was like when Story City lost its full service grocery store.

Susan Gwiasda Public Information Officer for the City of Ames and Electric Distribution Manager , Mike Brown.updates us on the next City council meetings, a few city activities and we spend time discussing electric outages in winter months- how to be prepared for an outage. When crews are not responding to emergencies, routine maintenance and system upgrades that are happening all year. Mike also encourages those thinking of potential jobs to consider employment as an electric line worker.

Our first order of business was announcing some of the results of yesterday's election. Barb Pedersen, committee chairperson of the voter services committee of the Ames and Story County League of Women Voters, was on hand to discuss the ways KHOI could make voter information --our candidate interviews and the local forums recorded by our volunteers, available to the public, both on broadcasts and through our website. Mara Spooner of the Fair Trade Store Worldly Goods, discussed their business model and the Benefit Events where part of the sales receipts will be donated to local organizations. We ended the show with two remarkable events coming up in the next few days. Deborah Marquart, editor of the children's book The Moo Cow Came Traveling , described the book launch that will be held this Sunday, November 8, 2-3 p.m. at the Ames Public Library with the book illustrator, Dorothia Rohner and an appearance with author Mark Muholland ZOOMING in from Ireland. And up in Briggs Woods by Webster City, Maureen Seamonds tells us of the annual harvest dinner for Legacy Learning with Kelly Boone leading the fun on Monday evening from 5:30 p.m. on Monday, November 9.
