Paul Wierson was a guest this morning telling about his response to the full page ad in the Story City Herald taken out by members of the Valley West YMCA youth group he advised from 1969-1974. This was also the occasion for a virtual reunion when members of that group Jeff Borns, Randy Cox, Dom Ferentz, and Jeff Connor ZOOMed in to the KHOI studio. Dan Ostrem, Stratford Fire Chief, told us about the heroic work of volunteer fire departments, from literally bringing water to rural fires to providing emergency health services and supporting community events to purchase equipment (including fire trucks and ambulances.) We ended the program with Sarah Thompson discussing "Rural Revival," her consulting firm to inspire economic development in small towns.

Local Talk for Friday, December 31, 2021 featured Dennis Hart's summary of the news from the past week from the Ames Tribune. Local Ames musicians were highlighted during the hour on a special New Year's Eve Local Talk. Reggie Greenlaw contributed selections, Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella and Sun Dog Waltz from his Yuletide Joy cd. Rosemary Griffin's cd Cowboys and Angel's was enjoyed also. Trickster, Learn How to Fly, Mired in Maya, and Come Love to Me. Eric Timmons contributed two selections Coure de Lene and Little Bear.
