NAMI Iowa, and The Arc of Story County will host an online Candidates Forum on Disability Issues: Wednesday, September 16 from 6:30 to 8 PM. You are invited to attend via Zoom, to register,go here. Limited space is available. Candidates running for office representing Story County residents will respond to questions concerning disability issues raised by the host agencies, Participating candidates will include: Theresa Greenfield, Zuzann Herzog, Rick Stewart, JD Scholten, Ciny Oppedal Paschen, Beth Wessel Kroeschell, Ross WIburn, Robert Bacon, Dave Deyoe, Latifah Faisal, Steve O'Rourke, and Lisa Heddens.
Jamie Pollard, ISU Director of Athletics, penned a letter on September 4th to fans, recommending that Iowa State respond to a $30 million deficit with layoffs or payroll reductions, eliminating sports and closing C.Y. Stephens Auditorium. A few days later, he tweeted a follow-up statement. According to Pollard, due to damages from COVID19, the university is having to choose between continuing to subsidize community access to performing arts events or eliminating services to students (i.e. dropping a sport) or laying off employees. He said “Perhaps the City of Ames and City Council could step up and help fund the $1 M shortfall if keeping CY Stephens is important to the citizens of Ames.” Tammy Koolbeck, Executive Director of the Iowa State Center answers questions about how decisions will be made about CY Stephens, the financial issues, and who uses the entertainment venue.
