County Reporters Cheryl Binzen and Susan Franzen took a road trip to Webster City, where they ate lunch at the 2nd Street Emporium and interviewed Cami Felts about the history of the restaurant before meeting with Deb Brown, Keri Rojas, Loween Getter, and Joann Robb at the Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce to discuss the attractions and history of Webster City.

We start off the hour with some wisdom from Irving Berlin and the Blue-Collar Philosopher. Ames High girls have been collecting state trophies left and right: The cheer squad won states for the second time two weeks ago, while swimmers came in 2nd place after a four-year (2010-2013) championship run.

We air audio from a nonagenarian aquatics competitor who learned how to swim at Lake Comar in Story City, and then speak with State Coach of the Year, Dan Flannery, about his coaching style and the lessons learned from 2nd place. With a musical tribute to Big Bank Hank (d. 11/11/2014) of the Sugarhill Gang.

In celebration of the recent successful pledge drive, the show opened with a brief history of radio in Ames from Alex Fefjar of the Ames Historical Society.

The second enrollment period for insurance using the government sponsored Health Insurance Marketplace runs from November 15 through February 15 and the bulk of the show consists of two interviews about enrolling under the Affordable Care Act (ACA, also known as Obamacare). One interview is with Tony Murray of Murray and Associates, an insurance company in Des Moines. The second interview is with Shanette White, who is a government certified Navigator trained to guide people seeking enrollment under ACA. Shanette White works as a Navigator under Planned Parenthood of the Hearland (PPHeartland).

Ruth Wiedemeier, Manager of the Octagon, talks about holiday season events in the downtown district, including the Festival of Trees at the Octagon, and Snow Days sponsored by the Downtown Cultural District.

Belinda Merrit lists live music events available in Ames over the weekend.

KHOI county reporters went all over our listening area exploring entertainment for Baby Boomers. Our first guest was Jan McInnis, who will join Kent Rader in "The Baby Boomer Comedy Night" at the Story City Grand Opera House on Thursday, November 13, Then Robby Peterson called in from Jefferson to tell us about History Boy Theatre Company. Finally, Karen Mahoney told us about a Karaoke party with music and dress from the 60s, 70s, and 80s to be November 22.

KHOI hosts Marty Miller and Susan Franzen presented a live on-air concert local folk musician Rick Exner on guitar and harmonica, and his guest, Erin O'Neil on fiddle.

Pat Schlarbaum sat in and gave the audience an update on the coming migration of sand hill cranes just started at Otter Creek Marsh east of Tama south of Highway 30.
