Broadcast Studio Construction Update

January 14, 2014 - 4:00pm -- ron

In spite of winter, we have taken the first major step in studio construction. Our floor plan, which hung on the walls of KHOI for several months, is now a $1000 worth of 2x4s and 2x6s nailed together by our, now famous, framing contractor Doug Clark into walls and ceilings of a large broadcast studio and two smaller recording studios. This two weekend effort also included cutting a new door into the back room and a large window into the broadcast studio to serve as our window to the public once the broadcast studio is operational and blessedly quiet.

The next steps are sound isolation, including sound isolating clips, two layers of 5/8" sheetrock, walls and ceiling, sound isolating doors and a 60" x 40" window, paint and simple carpet. Then electrical, ventilation, and wiring for sound.

Anyone who has the time, muscle and inclination to help with 70# pieces of sheetrock should call KHOI or shoot us an email at KHOIradio @gmail.com or contact me, Joe Lynch at (515) 292-2878.

Funding Drive

January 14, 2014 - 9:00am -- ron

KHOI recently held their annual fundraiser. They sent out a mailer and had an on-air phone drive while having a party at the studio. The result was fantastic! The studio raised $30,000 in November and December. Their operating costs for a year is $150,000.

To reach their fundraising goal KHOI has the 500 Families program. Any family or individual who donate $250 or more per year gets recognized through this program (donations can be anonymous). So far the studio has 55/500 families.

If you want more information about how to donate you can call the studio at (515) 292-2878.
