Anita Rollins Candidate for AMes CIty Council, Preparedness and Alert System

She describes the issues, and values she intends to focus on as a council member, with emphasis on open-mindedness, inclusiveness, and opportunity in the Ames community. She also describes her experience in public service and how they apply to being a council member. Keith Morgan, Story County Emergency Coordinator, gives a checklist for your emergency preparedness kit. A checklist for your preparedness kit:
- Food and water: Used to say for 72 hours, 1 gallon/day/person
- NOAA weather radio with batteries or solar/hand crank
- Flashlight
- Batteries
- Whistle
- Moist towelettes, garbage bags w plastic ties
- Can opener
- Plastic sheeting and duct tape
- Dust mask
- Way to charge cell phone (solar/hand crank)
- Pet supplies
- Extra glasses/meds
- First aid items (Pain reliever, bandages, anti-diarrhea meds, laxative, maybe tourniquet)
- Tools to turn off water and gas
- Cash or travelers check
- Personal hygiene supplies
- Matches in water proof container
- Eating/cooking utensils
- Games/puzzles for kids

Local Talk Friday, September 10 started off with news summary of the week from Ames Tribune by Dennis Hart. Fred Love encouraged listeners to check Maximum Ames.org for the weekend. Jeannie Hopper provided compelling documentary of 9 11 in New York City from 2001 when the World Trade Center Towers came down. Music she encouraged listeners to hear Do It Now by Diatribe Sound. Refreshing and Expanding Ames DIversity CrossWalk, Music for Labor Day

Haila describes the history and meaning of Ames' newly refreshed "Diversity Crosswalk" at 5th Street and Douglas Avenue. He reveals plans to install another such symbol of appreciation and support for diversity in Ames on Welch Avenue in Campustown. A medley of music about work honors Labor Day.
