Dr. Tyler Harms joins us to talk about the beginning of fall bird migration and provides the details for a weekend event showcasing Chimney Swifts in Ames.

Susan Gwiasda Communications Officer and Corey Mellies, Fleet and Facilities Director for the City of Ames  Visits about the 5th and Douglas refreshing of the pedestrian crossings paint and provides an update on the proposed Downtown plaza plans for the site located east of City Hall.

Local Talk for Friday, August 20, 2021 was kicked off with acknowledging National Radio Day. Dennis Hart provided great update of week in the news from pages of Ames Tribune. Phyllis Schrag gave a wonderful background on ISU Women's Club that featured an upcoming Garage Sale on August 27 and 28 from 8AM - 5PM Friday and 8AM to noon on Saturday at 3011 Harrison Road.  Call 515-337-1713 or ISUWC.org. Susan Gwiasda invited Don Kom Ames Electric Services Director to talk about energy consumption, electric cars and anything energy related to the Ames community.  Jess Soderstrum from ISU Extension talked about County 4H and her Youth Coordination role. Leanne Harter started the show with the monthly Story County Report. Then we visited Huxley where Katie Kinrade gave us a preview of Prairie Fest "The Roaring Twenties" coming up August 27, 28. Al Womble returned for a heartwarming update on the community efforts made to move the evicted tenants from the Davenport Crestwood Apartments.  On a historical note, Michael Luick-Thrams came in with a preview of his current BUSeum tour "Hidden and Forbidden No More: Prequils to the "Greatest Generation" -- the turbulent period of American History between World War I and World War II with the Pandemic of 1920, activities of the Ku Klux Klan in the north, uprisings  when the unemployed rose up and were suppressed, and the "Cow Wars." We ended with a conversation with John Cleas,  author of the  "The Perfect Rendezvous" , which will have its World Premiere at the Ankeny Community Theatre on August 27, 28, and 29.

Susan Gwiasda Communications Officer for the City of Ames talks about a fun activity for city residents of “positive sidewalk messaging” using colored chalks.  Ames Building Official Sara Van Meeteren along with Iowa State University’s Joel Hochstein  discusses the partnership program with the City and ISU staff who go door to door in neighborhoods near campus to welcome student back to Ames.
