Leanne Harter started the show with the monthly Story County Report. Then we visited Huxley where Katie Kinrade gave us a preview of Prairie Fest "The Roaring Twenties" coming up August 27, 28. Al Womble returned for a heartwarming update on the community efforts made to move the evicted tenants from the Davenport Crestwood Apartments.  On a historical note, Michael Luick-Thrams came in with a preview of his current BUSeum tour "Hidden and Forbidden No More: Prequils to the "Greatest Generation" -- the turbulent period of American History between World War I and World War II with the Pandemic of 1920, activities of the Ku Klux Klan in the north, uprisings  when the unemployed rose up and were suppressed, and the "Cow Wars." We ended with a conversation with John Cleas,  author of the  "The Perfect Rendezvous" , which will have its World Premiere at the Ankeny Community Theatre on August 27, 28, and 29.

David Stein with Prairie Rivers of Iowa  located The  Rusty Patch Bumble Bee here in central Iowa and provides some information on identification, habitat requirements, plant preferences, y life cycle, and why we should be concerned.

Sam Wormley reviews Iowa State University’s OLLI (Oshier Lifelong Learning Institute) Fall course  Offerings.

Susan Gwiasda Communications Officer for the City of Ames talks about a fun activity for city residents of “positive sidewalk messaging” using colored chalks.  Ames Building Official Sara Van Meeteren along with Iowa State University’s Joel Hochstein  discusses the partnership program with the City and ISU staff who go door to door in neighborhoods near campus to welcome student back to Ames.

Local Talk for Monday, August 16 featured an interview with Jess Mazour.  Ms.  Mazour discussed Iowa's Clean Water efforts at Bloody Run Creek in NE Iowa.  Liz Zuecker with Story County Community Foundation talked about their grant proposal deadline coming up.  Also Nanci Griffith, country music star was featured as she passed away August 13. She was 68.

Pat Schlarbaum visits with Mike Meetz about his return from Isle Royale National Park and Wilderness and the survey on the Common Loon Mike is involved with.  

Erica Place, Outreach Coordinator for SCConservation joins us for our monthly visit, along with David Stein Watershed Coordinator with Prairie Rivers of Iowa and visit about a project that both units are cooperating in.

Susan Gwiasda Communications Officer for the City of Ames along with Keith Abraham Parks and Recreation Director provides us with summer updates in the parks and recreation systems.
